Health and Safety Specialist
- Job Summary/Purpose of the Position:
This position is responsible for assisting Marotta's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager with planning, developing, and implementing company procedures/programs to ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations and to help build a safety culture through-out all that we do. This position supports various activities to ensure the goals, objectives, and strategies of the Marotta organization are achieved. In addition, the position requires effective interaction with a broad spectrum of people both internal and external to the organization to successfully support the organization.

- Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Assists with generating, implementing, and maintaining EHS policies, procedures, and programs for all areas of the organization.
- Performs routine inspections to evaluate, identify, and document potential safety and other occupational risks followed by managing or completing appropriate corrective actions with the goal of ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Works effectively with employees, leads, supervisors, managers, and the entire leadership team to encourage a secure and safe work environment with the goal of building a positive safety culture into all that Marotta does.
- Supports activities related to the management and maintenance of Marotta's First Responders program.
- Assists with the effective operation of our emergency and evacuation notification system.
- Conducts or supports the completion of incident investigations. Assists with root-cause analysis and documents and/or implements the appropriate corrective actions.
- Helps coordinate, update, and conduct/implement select EHS in-person and online training.
- Works with the Facilities/Maintenance and other teams to review contractor safety. Provides contractor safety orientations and on-site management.
- Adjusts tasks and priorities based on needs of leadership, production schedules, and EHS requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Brings projects and other assignments to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with our internal and external customers.
- Abides by and sets a good example for all safety, health, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to regulatory and internal system requirements.
- Contributes to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication.
- Actively participates in meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and supports actions to drive company initiatives/goals.
- Consistently demonstrates commitment to company values, goals, and objectives.
- Keeps the EHS Manager and management informed of activities and of any significant EHS issues that may arise.
- Education, Certifications, and Years of Experience
- Minimum of a two-year technical degree (Occupational Safety and/or Environmental field preferred).
- One to five years of related experience and supporting aspects of occupational safety or environmental compliance.
- OSHA 30 and CPR/AED/First Aid or EMT training preferred.
- Required Qualifications
- Knowledgeable in the areas of occupational safety and/or environmental compliance.
- Capable of interpreting and acting upon technical data, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Able to perform thorough facility-wide inspections with an acute eye for hazard identification.
- Possesses good verbal/written communication skills required for effective interactions with all levels of personnel both internal and external to the organization.
- Organized and has robust problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated and works effectively in both independent and team-based environments requiring minimal guidance and oversight.
- Proficient in the use of business productivity and web-based software.
- Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing environment, including but not limited to fluids, fumes, airborne particles, and noise.
- This job interacts with office, development lab, and manufacturing environments. This role uses office equipment such as computers and printers, as well as environments and areas that require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for vision, hearing, head, body, hand, and foot protection.
- The work environment temperature may be affected by outside temperatures and manufacturing processes.
- This is a full-time position. Additional time may be required, as job duties and schedules demand.
- Some local travel may be required for this position (< 10%).
- Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close/distance/peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
This position is at our Montville, NJ office location.
