General Overview
Reporting directly to the Mass General Brigham Chief of Clinical Affairs, the Administrative Director, Medical Affairs serves as the department administrator for the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO) for Enterprise Professionalism, system-wide Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), and for the MGB Community Division, driving the mission of the OCMO and acting as an administrative partner to the Chief of Clinical Affairs. The Director is responsible for developing and overseeing a new, system-wide program for clinician professionalism, as well as a new enterprise program for medical professional practice evaluation for physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs). The Director is additionally responsible for oversight of administrative activities undertaken by the OCMO to support Quality, Safety, Medical Policy, Pharmacy and Formulary, and Physician and Advanced Practice Providers Performance, Professionalism and Well-Being for the MGB Community Division, comprised of 6 community hospitals and the Massachusetts General Brigham Medical Group (MGB MG). This person will manage a team within the OCMO to best meet the needs and mission of the OCMO related to system-wide professionalism and medical affairs initiatives, as well as community division wide activities. The Director will bring vision, imagination, and significant demonstrated experience leading programs of broad scope and complexity and will work closely with senior leadership across the OCMO, clinical departments, and the Community Division. The Director serves as the center point for planning, management, policy and process formulation and improvement, and organizational direction. The Director will serve as a key point of contact within the Office of the CMO for Enterprise Professionalism and Medical Affairs and for the Community Division, to whom all internal and external stakeholders look for organizational planning. This role will be the champion for internal business process excellence and a conduit for awareness and integration of external best practices for Office of the CMO affairs related to strategy, medical policies, physician and APP performance and professionalism, quality, and clinician well-being, as well as ensuring alignment with the overall organization and strategy of MGB. The individual in this role will have superior change management skills, the ability to manage an expansive and constantly changing portfolio of work, mature leadership abilities, and the ability to communicate the "why" of transformation to multiple and diverse teams, and extensive experience in process or quality improvement activities. Principal Duties and Responsibilities General Responsibilities *Serve as administrative leader to guide development and implementation of an enterprise-wide provider professionalism oversight and support program. *Oversee development and implementation of a system-wide program for medical professional practice evaluation to assess and support clinical excellence. *Partner with the Chief of Clinical Affairs, site-based Associate Chief Medical Officers, and other quality leaders in designing and executing the quality strategy for MGB Community Division hospitals and Mass General Brigham Medical Group. *Provide leadership and project management support to OCMO and system-wide initiatives, working with senior leadership across the OCMO, clinical departments, and the Community Division. *Coordinate reporting and improvement activities across multiple areas. *Build strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues throughout hospitals and clinical departments across Mass General Brigham and within the MGB Community Division, and act as a model and champion for integration across Mass General Brigham. *Perform other duties, as requested. Physician and Medical Staff Leadership *In partnership with the MGB Chief of Clinical Affairs and AMC, Community Division and OCMO leaders, design and implement a system-wide approach to medical professional practice evaluation and performance management, including but not limited to Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), focused review of performance for newly requested privileges (FPPE) and re-credentialing and re-privileging processes. *With direction from the MGB Chief of Clinical Affairs, help to evaluate current performance across hospitals, departments and practices to understand key professionalism areas of opportunity, and subsequently work with the Chief of Clinical Affairs and senior leadership team to implement standardized professionalism processes and programs across all entities and clinical departments. *In collaboration with OCMO and operational leaders, support the development, implementation, and oversight of initiatives to improve the work lives of physicians and APPs in alignment with system strategy. MGB Community Division *Devise processes to enable understanding of strategic goals, performance, and policies, and assist in the implementation of improvement strategies to support the MGB Community Division hospitals and Mass General Brigham Medical Group. *In partnership with the MGB Chief of Clinical Affairs, collaborate with enterprise quality domain leaders as needed to support improvement efforts that span hospitals and practices across the Community Division. *Oversee coordination of quality and safety concerns across the Community Division, in partnership with the MGB Chief of Clinical Affairs and OCMO domain leaders. *Administratively support implementation of medical policies across the Community Division as needed, in accordance with MGB Medical Policy Committee guidance. *Lead and manage the Community Division Chief Medical Officer Council, in partnership with the MGB Chief of Clinical Affairs. Physician Executive Leadership *Interface with leadership, departments and services across Mass General Brigham hospitals and across the Community Division as needed in a collaborative effort to lead the strategic goals of the organization. Clinician Wellbeing *In collaboration with the MGB Chief of Clinical Affairs and the Chief Patient Experience Officer and team, support development and oversight of initiatives to support and recognize professional excellence across Mass General Brigham and to improve the work lives of clinicians across the Community Division. *Professional office setting located in Assembly Row, Somerville, MA. Requires travel locally to other Mass General Brigham sites. Reliable access to transportation to travel between sites for business purposes is required. *Direct supervision of administrative staff / team to support professionalism & medical affairs programs (4-6 FTE) *Collaboration with MGB clinical department leaders, entity Chief Medical Officers and Associate Chief Medical Officers, AMC and Community Division Chief APP Officers, MGB Community Division leadership and operational teams, OCMO domain leaders. *Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources.
