Job Summary: The Clinical Nurse C-VAT (Vascular Access Team) demonstrates advanced nursing knowledge applicable to the specialty practice of vascular access nursing. Serves in two large Magnet Recognized tertiary academic medical centers with multiple hospital campuses (University Hospital, East Campus Hospital, Surgical Hospital, Children's Hospital) and ambulatory departments. Works under the collaborative direction and leadership of a medical director and nursing leadership team. Functions in a fast paced environment and utilizes skilled discretion and independent judgment to prioritize and coordinate procedures based on the needs of the patient population served, established professional practice model (Duffy's Quality-Caring Model), approved standardized procedure(s), policies, guidelines, registered nurse scope of practice and recommendations outlined by the Intravenous Nurses Society (INS), applicable regulatory standards and requirements. Procedures include, but are not limited to, difficult peripheral IVs (PIVs), placement and/or exchange of peripheral inserted central catheters (PICC), ultrasound-guided midline and extended dwell catheters for difficult access and therapeutic phlebotomy. Educates patients regarding procedure and verifies informed consent is completed prior to procedure. Serves as a role model in patient care delivery methods, communication and documentation. Functions within the expectations of an accomplished professional nurse and meets nursing excellence standards to maintain Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Inspires others in the advancement of evidence into bed-side practice to optimize patient outcomes. Represents nursing as an empowered profession and enthusiastically embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Provides a positive influence to facilitate change and optimize patient satisfaction and outcomes. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications and competencies as defined in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care and the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). Exhibits refined interpersonal skills that portray professionalism and maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.
