Position Description

Modine Manufacturing Company in Racine, Wisconsin is hiring for an Automotive Test Technician to support our Tech Center Thermal Test Laboratory team. This position is on-site 5 days per week. This position will be responsible for the setting up and testing of heat exchanger products in our Thermal Test Laboratory. Technicians are responsible for providing reliable and timely testing in accordance with written Laboratory Work Orders and validated test methods as prescribed in the Racine Tech Center Quality Management System.

Thermal Test Laboratory: The primary activity of this laboratory is heat exchanger performance. The laboratory provides a wide variety of stable fluid inputs with flow rate, temperature, and pressure control to establish the fundamental thermodynamic characteristics of heat exchangers and systems (e.g., engine cooling radiators, battery coolers, air and liquid cooled oil coolers and charge air coolers.)

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform tests per LWO according to the written work instructions.
  • Generate test reports in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Record the progress of UUT (receipt, start, complete and publish dates in addition to the results, test station and technician) in the LWO log
  • Assist with measurement system calibration
  • Participate in fixture design and/or fabrication
  • Maintain test equipment and record repairs or modifications
  • Train others as determined by the Test Operations Supervisor/Manager in the operation of test equipment and test methods

Required Education & Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • An Associate Degree in an Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Automotive or a related technical discipline plus up to 4 years of technical work experience, or 3 - 7 years equivalent experience in a technical discipline.

Required Qualifications:

Individuals could have several tests or tasks being performed simultaneously and should have the ability to multi-task and manage their activities in a quality driven, yet time-sensitive environment. An individual requires the ability to learn new skills on an ongoing basis. Technicians need good analytical judgment and the ability to work under light pressure from deadlines. Close attention to detail is essential, because small differences or changes in test conditions can be crucial to assure test quality and integrity. Continuous improvement, as well as the monitoring and maintaining of equipment and processes are a high priority. An understanding of measurement instrumentation and calibration methods is required. The individual should also possess computer skills for Excel, Microsoft Word, data entry and file management. The laboratories are team environments where good verbal and written communication skills are required between multiple laboratories, the test requestors and in test reporting.
