Summer 2025 - Mechanical Engineering Intern

STV is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our Buildings team with a focus on Plumbing and Fire Protection Design. . This internship offers an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate-level candidates to work alongside our experienced team, learn, and contribute to meaningful projects. This hybrid position requires at least 3 days a week in the office. Preference will be given to those who can participate in the internship for at least 3 months and can work full-time.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in plumbing and fire protection system designs, including calculations, layout development, and equipment selection.

• Support senior engineers in preparing construction drawings and specifications using Revit, AutoCAD, and other industry software.

• Conduct research and assist in selecting appropriate piping materials, fixture types, and fire protection components for projects.

• Perform hydraulic calculations for fire protection system design and water supply demand analysis.

• Participate in site visits and field investigations to gather relevant data and observe system installations.

• Assist in reviewing construction submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs to ensure design compliance.

• Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other disciplines to ensure cohesive and efficient building system designs.

• Develop cost estimates and technical reports for plumbing and fire protection systems.

• Learn and apply industry standards and building codes such as NFPA, ASHRAE, IPC, and local plumbing and fire protection codes.

• Support project teams with document management, report formatting, and other administrative tasks as needed.

• Perform other tasks as assigned to support project goals and team objectives.

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or NCEES equivalent.

• Coursework or experience in plumbing and fire protection system design.

• Familiarity with building codes and industry standards (NFPA, ASHRAE, IPC).

• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and hydraulic calculation software.

• Prior internship or work experience in the architecture, engineering, or construction management industry.
