The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University Research Corporation is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Part-Time Program Assistant.

About the Opportunity

This position will work for the WV Local Technical Assistance Program (WV LTAP) and perform a variety of duties: administrative/clerical, customer support, on-site training/event moderation and assistance, public relations, writing, editing, and proofreading. This position interacts on a regular basis with current and potential WV LTAP customers and WV LTAP Advisory Board members, including representatives from WV LTAP funding agencies. This position will respond to inquiries and independently resolve matters of low to high-moderate complexity. The work effort has considerable impact on client services, program and project image, with potential legal liabilities.

What You'll Do:



  • Assist with writing, layout, and proofreading of WV LTAP marketing and educational materials, including the Country Roads & City Streets newsletter, class announcements, fact sheets, presentations, etc., and assists with social media.
  • Provide on-site assistance with WV LTAP sponsored events, meetings, and training sessions. This includes, but is not limited to, setting up event room, registering attendees, providing a brief overview of WV LTAP, managing hospitality items, and taking photographs and videos during event.
  • Deliver and pick up equipment that has been loaned out from the WV LTAP's Equipment Loan Program.
  • Assist with daily office tasks, such as entering information into databases and excel spread sheets and digitizing materials.
  • Assist with updating the contact information for WV LTAP customers in the database.
  • Attend quarterly WV LTAP Advisory Board meetings, as needed.
  • Other tasks, as identified.


Work Hours: 20 Hours Per Week

Qualifications

  • An associate degree in English, communications, public relations, or marketing.
  • A minimum of 0-6 months of related experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Must be comfortable and knowledgeable with using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Familiarity with Adobe products is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Demonstrated ability to properly proofread and edit digital and print materials.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written that is adaptable to different audiences.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to change.

Requirements

  • Valid US driver's license.

The WVURC was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985 to support research (R1) at West Virginia University. We provide evaluation, development, patenting, management, and marketing services for inventions of the faculty, staff and students of the University.
