State Department Federal Credit Union is seeking a Communications Strategist to develop and implement clear, engaging, and impactful content across various communication channels. Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer, this role plays a critical part in executing communications, campaigns, and member correspondence in both print and digital formats.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing and verbal communication skills, a strong sense of urgency, and a deep understanding of SDFCU's objectives and member engagement strategies. They will align messaging with marketing and communication plans, support product campaigns, enhance member onboarding efforts, and contribute to brand initiatives. Additionally, they will ensure all content adheres to brand guidelines, maintaining a consistent tone while adapting messaging for different platforms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create, proofread, and edit high-quality content for multiple platforms, including digital, print, email, and social media.
  • Deliver content such as newsletters, annual reports, social media posts, website copy, press releases, media articles, promotional materials, surveys, and campaign messaging.
  • Develop member-facing communications, ensuring clarity and consistency in statements, updates, notices, service announcements, and product offerings.
  • Collaborate with campaign teams to create and implement integrated strategies and messaging that focus on member acquisition, retention, and engagement.
  • Develop and maintain the credit union's voice and messaging to ensure alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Partner with other business units to foster a culture of brand alignment through employee onboarding programs and ongoing engagement initiatives.
  • Draft and manage internal communication to keep employees informed about key initiatives, product updates, events, and organizational changes.
  • Regularly update internal communications to ensure employees have access to the latest messaging and resources.
  • Develop and manage a content calendar that aligns communication timelines with key events, milestones, and campaigns.
  • Support the development and execution of timely, accurate communication during crises, ensuring members are informed and reassured.
  • Work closely with teams across the credit union, including retail services, lending, digital, and leadership to ensure communication efforts are aligned with business goals and member needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns. Provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement based on performance data and feedback.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a communications or content strategy role, preferably in financial services, credit unions, or related industries. Experience with digital marketing and content optimization for social media and web platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven experience in content creation, campaign development, and member/customer correspondence.
  • Strong understanding of member engagement and retention strategies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficient in content management systems (CMS), email marketing tools, and social media platforms.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and web analytics tools.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to adapt messaging to different target audiences and channels.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of financial products, services, and regulations specific to credit unions is a plus.
