The Manager of Electric Asset Management oversees and directs technical staff responsible for; 1) developing and implementing asset management strategies and programs, 2) developing and maintaining material and design standards, and 3) managing joint-use requests from third-party communications providers for CenterPoint Energy's Indiana Electric footprint. The position has responsibility for recruiting, on-boarding and managing new employees, and also manages contractor and vendor relationships. The position ensures adherence to applicable codes, and develops and maintains departmental standards and procedures. The position ensures effective collaboration and communications across engineering, field operations, and other internal and external stakeholder groups. The position participates in capital and O&M budgeting processes and monitors financial performance for respective area. The position provides support during emergency operations and electric system restoration activities.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date substation, transmission and distribution asset data and ensures company systems of record (i.e. GIS, databases, etc.) are accurately maintained.
- Develops and implements inspection and preventive maintenance programs for electric utility assets (i.e. poles and towers, substation equipment, underground distribution cable and equipment, etc.) in accordance with industry standard practices.
- Oversees employees performing electric utility engineering activities, including development and publication of material specifications, design standards and other related activities.
- Manages the utility's joint use process from receipt of application through billing. Supports the development of construction work order packages and supports field execution of projects for joint-use requests. Manages joint-use contracts and ensures compliance with applicable FCC requirements. Performs periodic audits of pole attachments and manages annual joint use billing.
- Builds safety into the electric distribution system by ensuring design adherence to applicable internal standard and procedures, and also ensures design adherence to external code requirements (NESC, etc.).
- Works proactively with internal and external stakeholders and customers to identify opportunities to improve the reliability of the electric system.
- Assists in the development of annual capital and O&M budgets.
- Develops departmental goals and intiatives and works with team members to set individual performance goals.
- Monitors performance, maintains employee records and documentation, provides on-going feedback, coaches when improvement is needed and performs formal performance reviews and counsels and/or administers disciplinary action, as warranted.
- Develops staff to ensure job competency, staff growth, and succession planning.
- Demonstrates initiative and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Provides thorough documentation including business cases, performance metrics, status reports, etc.
- Demonstrates superior written and oral communication skills.
- Builds relationships and effectively interfaces with operational groups, engineering, new business and sales, customers, neighboring utilities, regulatory bodies, and others.
- Participates in task forces, user groups, inter-utility working groups, and professional organizations including MEA, MEDE, IEA, EEI, etc.
Education Description:
- Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (or related discipline) from an accredited college or university
- Requires a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
Experience:
- Requires a minimum of five years electric utility or power engineering experience
