Summary of Job Duties:The Health Education Specialist, serving as a Patient Navigator for the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, works under the direct supervision of the Director of Outpatient Programs. This role coordinates with medical and mental health providers to manage patient referrals and intake, ensuring appropriate placement within specialized treatment services. The Health Education Specialist also provides indirect clinical support by connecting patients and families to case management services, including referrals, housing, transportation, and food assistance. Additionally, they follow up with high-risk patients seen by Division Psychiatrists to support safety planning and crisis management. Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field plus two (2) years of mental health experience or

  • High School diploma/GED plus six (6) years of mental health experiencerequired.

  • Mental health paraprofessional certification within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in outpatient behavioral health program(s).

  • Experience working with preschoolers/children/teens in a mental health or social service setting.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Receives and processes all referrals per established protocols.

  • Coordinates with outside hospitals, Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) emergency Department, both ACH and non-ACH Primary Care Physicians (PCPs), pediatric provider groups, and other specialists. Maintains accurate records, tracking the status and receipt of notes for completed referrals.

  • Provides information to and education to patients and their families regarding the availability of specialty services.

  • Coordinates with support staff for scheduling.

  • Utilizes formal channels of communication to report concerns, personal requests, and patient issues. Complete additional duties and other projects as assigned.

  • Provides resourcing information for a variety of needs that patients and their families may have, and helps these individuals connect with those resources, including access to crisis intervention services when patients within our medication clinics need safety awareness and planning.

  • Provides feedback to referral sources/entities about specific referrals as well as summary data of waitlist times, school-district level reporting, as well as face-to-face interactions (when appropriate) with schools, PCP offices, group pediatric agencies, etc.

  • Develops outreach materials towards the completion of this task.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
