About the Job

Essential Functions:

Development, Marketing, and Administration (40%)

  • Process, evaluate, and monitor study abroad applications
  • Liaise with and maintain institutional relationships with foreign universities and affiliates
  • Assist with the implementation of Education Abroad policies and processes
  • Maintain online application system
  • Create, edit, and maintain informational program webpages
  • Develop and implement program-related promotion and recruitment efforts
  • Participate in promotional events
  • Develop and update print materials and social media
  • Work with overseas resident staff
  • Assist with the development of program emergency and crisis management plans

Student Services and Advising (40%)

  • Assist with the communication to students and the campus community of the value and benefits of a study abroad experience and policies and procedures
  • Advise students through program selection and pre-departure process
  • Develop and lead pre-departure orientation sessions
  • Advise on complex visa processes
  • Respond to inquiries in accordance with FERPA guidelines
  • Process study abroad grades
  • Create / update study abroad program cost estimates
  • Facilitate course evaluations

Hire, train, and supervise student employees (15%)

  • Hire peer advisors on an annual basis
  • Coordinate Peer Advisor training on an annual basis
  • Oversee Peer Advisor and delegate tasks to support study abroad program portfolio
  • Provide ongoing training focused on obtaining course reviews, website management, student advising, etc.

Other duties as assigned (5%)

  • The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position as needed.
  • This position may require occasional work outside of office hours (e.g. evenings or weekends)
  • This position may be required to travel locally, nationally, and internationally.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
  • Excellent interpersonal, intercultural, and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience studying, living, and/or working overseas
  • Familiarity with Slate, Drupal, PeopleSoft, Google Workspace, Zoom, and APAS
  • Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff, administrators
  • Experience coordinating/managing study abroad programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, intercultural, and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently

International Programs and Services is the visionary leader for UMD's international programs. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.01 - $26.51 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
