Research Description
The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities invites applications for a researcher in the field of multi-messenger astronomy with Prof. Michael Coughlin. The appointment start date is ASAP, with some flexibility. The appointment is for two months. The research would focus on time-domain observations with the Spectral Energy Distribution Machine (SEDM) at the Kitt Peak 2.1 meter telescope in Arizona. Specifically, we are seeking those interested in performing observations and data reduction, participating in our analysis of ground-based telescope data to study multi-messenger, transient objects by performing photometric and spectroscopic observations with SEDM.

Job Requirements:

Primary duties include the following:
80%: Observations and data reduction for the Spectral Energy Distribution Machine (SEDM) at the Kitt Peak 2.1 meter
20%: Communicate and coordinate with other personnel involved in the research, including those from non-computing disciplines.

Other duties of a similar scope as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or other applicable discipline by beginning date of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications
0-2+ years' relevant work experience.
Demonstrated skills in any of the following: programming (especially Python), data science, machine learning, and statistics.
Strong optical photometric and spectroscopic observational experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong collaboration skills.

Pay and Benefits

Fixed Pay Rate: $28.20 per hour
