A Brief Overview This role is an advanced researcher that plans, coordinates and executes complex research projects. Contributions are scientific or intellectual, characterized by originality and creativity. Works under the mentorship of an established principal investigator to conduct research in a specific scientific area. Conducts experiments without direct supervision; develops research projects with the guidance of the principal investigator. Develops new experimental procedures and hypotheses for further investigation.
Prepares manuscripts and abstracts for publication, publishes scientific articles in refereed journals, presents at scientific symposiums. Collaborates and interacts with other researchers within CHOP - RI and at other institutions. Assists in the preparation of scientific publications and research grant proposals. Serves as resource person for colleagues and as a mentor for less experienced research personnel. May manage/supervise other research staff or projects; assists with the management of laboratory operations. About the Laboratory Dr. Diorio's translational laboratory in the Center for Childhood Cancer Research focuses on two key areas: 1) the translation of chimeric antigen receptor T-cells (CART) for childhood T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) and 2) understanding the mechanistic biology of immune related adverse events (iRAE) due to CART and other immunotherapies. Current areas of particular interest include the immunobiology of cytokine release syndrome (CRS), deep phenotyping patients with immune effector cell associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) and the cytokine archietecure of immune effector cell associated hemophagocytic syndrome (IEC-HS). Dr Diorio is seeking a motivated, dynamic, and hard-working staff scientist to help build our research program. Scope of work will include in vitro assays, animal studies, analysis of patient samples using techniques such as proximity extension assays, scRNAseq/ATACseq, flow cytometry and other core laboratory techniques. Further the candidate will be expected to contribute to a positive scientific environment by sharing insights and idea, mentoring trainees and other lab members and being an active member of the team. Successful candidates must be able to troubleshoot and plan experiments with research technicians and students with appropriate Principal Investigator oversight. The candidate will also perform figure preparation and contribute to primary writing of scientific manuscripts and grants. Further, they will be able to handle multiple, time-dependent tasks efficiently and conscientiously, and have excellent organizational and analytic skills. Candidates with prior flow cytometry, in vivo mouse studies, and genetic sequencing/bioinformatics experience will be prioritized.. The successful applicant must be a highly collaborative, collegial team player with an ability to work well with others in a laboratory setting at CHOP and with internal and external collaborators. What you will do
- Conducts research of significant scientific value in the basic and/or translational science area(s)
- In consultation with the PI functions independently in the development and execution of research projects
- Plans, conducts, and manages research projects within the federal, institutional regulations and policies
- Collaborates with researchers, external agencies and institutions to develop cooperative research initiatives
- Trains technical staff, students, fellows, and physicians in lab procedures
- Reviews manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals
- Assists with the development of high quality publications for peer reviewed, scientific journals
- Assists in composing/developing/ submitting applications for grants, contracts, and research project funding
- Responsible for appropriate use of research funds
- May supervise students or other research staff
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Master's Degree Preferred
- Doctorate Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least nine (9) years of directly relevant scientific lab experience Required
- At least three (3) years of post-fellowship scientific experience Preferred
