About The Job Dudek is seeking a Environmental Acoustician that leads the assessment or evaluation of outdoor noise environments, as well as exterior noise intrusion to occupied or inhabited interior spaces of the built environment, quantifying noise generation and potential adverse effects or impacts from (or to) proposed development or land planning activities, provides guidance on noise control and sound abatement techniques, and formulates recommendations for the management of predicted noise levels for compliance with applicable regulations, industry guidance, and client-specific goals. Candidates will have 5 to 10 years of versatile experience in the environmental acoustics consulting industry that includes multiple years of demonstrable project or discipline-specific task management and team leadership experience to help grow and support our environmental noise and vibration practice across the United States. The candidate will also have a strong interest and demonstrated ability to execute business development strategies for diversifying services and market sectors in the United States. This position will be associated with our Denver office but can be fully remote, with opportunities to work on projects throughout the United States. Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below): * Responsible for preparing environmental noise and vibration impact studies for a range of project types (residential, transportation, commercial, industrial, mining, natural gas transmission, electricity transmission, renewable power generation, energy storage, etc.) in accordance with federal agency and state-level requirements and relevant local standards and guidance.
Minimum Requirements
* Designing and directing field surveys to measure and characterize existing outdoor noise and groundborne vibration conditions in project areas. * Conducting and supervising noise and vibration measurements to demonstrate compliance with noise ordinances, building codes, standards, specifications, and ANSI guidelines. * Directing and performing detailed environmental noise modeling and mitigation scenario analyses using industry-adopted software such as FHWA TNM 2.5 and Datakustik CadnaA, including exterior-to-interior noise reduction assessment (e.g., net transmission loss evaluation of building shell components). * Communicate with and concisely explain acoustic technical concepts to clients, attorneys, agency representatives, and members of the public in an engaging and rapport-building manner. * Quickly build relationships and trust with both internal customers and external clients; and actively market Dudek's full range of environmental and architectural acoustics capabilities. * Potentially represent Dudek (or its clients) as an expert witness or subject matter expert pertaining to noise and vibration topics and their market applications (e.g., wind turbine noise). * Prepare scope-and-fee estimates for standalone environmental noise/vibration studies and participate in multi-discipline Dudek service proposals and the pursuit of new clients. * Mentor junior Dudek acousticians in support of their professional development as consultants and technical experts in a variety of acoustical disciplines and client markets or applications (e.g., highway and rail infrastructure, renewable energy, mixed-use housing development). * With support from in-house marketing professionals, senior-level colleagues in other technical disciplines, and business group leaders, actively participate in geographic expansion of Dudek-served markets and client sectors across the United States. * Bachelor's degree in engineering, Physics, Acoustics, Environmental Science, or related subjects.
* As a federal contractor, successful candidates are required to pass the following pre-employment requirements prior to beginning employment: pre - employment drug test and background check.
* 5+ years related experience and proven track-record in acoustical consulting and understanding of requirements of federal and multiple state agencies across the United States. * Knowledge, understanding, and experience with transportation and construction-related noise and vibration analysis methodologies accepted by FHWA, FTA, and Caltrans and advanced noise modeling software such as TNM 2.5 (or later versions), CadnaA, SoundPLAN, etc. * Experience in using and customizing spreadsheet-based noise and vibration models. * Experience using state-of-the-art instrumentation and accepted methods to measure sound and vibration, and associated software to download, process, and efficiently analyze and interpret collected data. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Strong analytical, problem-solving, quantitative and/or modeling skills. * Ability to prioritize and multi-task, and the ability to work under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment while keeping clients and stakeholders informed of progress. * Ability to work independently, and remotely as a cooperative team member. * Experience with reviewing project design development plans, equipment specifications (or manufacturer engineering data) and construction documents to glean modeling input parameters and identify potential acoustical concerns. * Ability to perform client project site visits to investigate noise and vibration problems or other phenomena, recommend options for acoustical upgrading or solutions, and assessing adequacy of implementation and performance. * Service-oriented, motivated self-starter with sound project management practices, client relationship savvy, and financial awareness. * Experience with mentoring, educating, training, or otherwise providing guidance to and facilitating learning of junior colleagues, students, or lay-persons. * Ability to operate independently and implement a business development plan that focuses on market sector strategies. Preferred Qualifications * Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE-USA) Board Certified Member (and in good standing).
Physical Requirements
* Demonstrated multi-year participation (panel, session co-chair, and/or paper presenter) in professional society conferences (e.g., INCE-USA NoiseCon or InterNoise). * Highly organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. * Self-motivated with an interest in learning and growing as a leader in client business development strategies. * Experience mentoring staff and managing multi-disciplinary project teams. * Understanding of budgeting, financial tracking, and profitability. Speaking, hearing and listening are required. * This job requires occasional driving (or flying via commercial airlines) to distant client offices or their project sites, which may be multiple hours (one-way) from a nearest Dudek office. * This job may require health and safety training and practice that could include CPR or provision of first-aid to assist fellow employees or other personnel in the field or office per Dudek policies. * Specific vision abilities required by this job, to enable safe driving to-and-from client/project sites and perform in-office and outdoor field-related tasks, include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. * Performance of outdoor activities on land may involve the following in potentially extreme weather conditions and/or for extended periods of time, including during nighttime hours: o walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances, while carrying instruments and related equipment; and o carrying, deploying, monitoring, inspecting, servicing, and retrieving instruments and ancillary equipment (batteries, weatherproof cases, etc.). * Performance of outdoor activities on water may involve the following in potentially extreme weather conditions and/or for extended periods of time: o preparing and handling hydro-acoustic instruments and related equipment on small watercraft potentially subject to uneven motion. Proposed Salary Range: $85,000-$105,000 annually* *Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual's related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
