Primarily responsible for performing the regular daily operations of the Vascular Laboratory, including integrating the responsibilities with the other technical employee(s) within the laboratory.
Performs non-invasive and vascular ultrasound testing and provides preliminary interpretation. Manages regular day-to-day operations to ensure efficient operation of the unit. Performs non-invasive, vascular ultrasound examinations utilizing appropriate equipment; i.e., Doppler ultrasound, B-mode real time imaging and color-flow imaging, etc. Provides referring physicians with preliminary interpretation and delivers all study results to physicians for formal interpretation. Makes copies of and distributes to referring physicians and all final copies of reports. Records and bills all Laboratory procedures for studies performed; ensures all pertinent information is appropriately filed, for patient records and teaching purposes. Oversees and periodically tests equipment to ensure it is kept in working order and is properly calibrates. Notifies Medical Engineering of any equipment malfunction or contacts appropriate outside contractors to evaluate. Provides instruction and information to medical staff, residents and fellows about the capabilities and proper use of equipment and techniques used in vascular testing. Participates in and attends conferences, seminars and meetings with other technologists on a national basis and utilizes available literature to obtain current information on new diagnostic techniques. Educates patients as to risk factors causing their particular disease; i.e., diet, exercise, smoking, etc. Orders and maintains stock of supplies for the Laboratory. Shares in on-call program to provide duplex ultrasound venous imaging during off hours.
