The Senior Employee Relations Advisor serves as a trusted advisor to both employees and leadership, providing guidance on employee relations issues, investigating complaints, mediating disputes, and promoting a positive work environment. This role will assist in resolving difficulties and conflicts between supervisors and employees including performance issues, employee concerns about job conditions, discrimination and harassment complaints. Must be a seasoned HR professional with strong judgement skills to assess and evaluate complex cases and influence leadership at the highest levels.

The Senior Employee Relations Advisor will:

  • Develop resolutions to employee relations and labor issues by providing advice, research, direction and guidance to management and employees.
  • Investigate allegations of employee misconduct, conducts internal investigations and prepares investigative reports.
  • Guide managers on performance management and corrective action process.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution between employees through coaching and referrals to appropriate resources.
  • Provide guidance on ADA accommodations interactive process to employees and managers; works collaboratively with the Office of Health Services on ADA cases.
  • Review employee grievance cases and recommends findings.
  • Provide interpretation to supervisors and employees in the interpretation and application of the Hospital's personnel policies.
  • Ensure personnel policies are equitable and effective; reviews current policies and procedures and recommends changes, as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping metrics and documentation related to employee cases.
  • Collaborate with Office of General Counsel in preparing for the Hospital's defense in regards to discrimination complaints or lawsuits brought by employees.
  • Coordinate and prepare presentation of cases for arbitration and administrative hearings, such as unemployment.
  • Train supervisors and managers in support of Hospital leadership development programs on managing employee relations issues.
  • Provide direction and support leave administration issues, as needed.
  • Maintain collaborative team relationships with other HR teams and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups' achievement goals.
  • Ensure legal compliance to mitigate risk to the organization through effective guidance.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • May participate in Hospital committees when required.

To qualify, you must have:

  • BA degree and at least 8 years of experience with Human Resources or a closely related field.
  • Experience working in an academic research hospital, healthcare or related industry preferred.
  • Ability to understand situational dynamics and situations and provide resolutions.
  • Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations, particularly in the healthcare industry.
  • Proven ability to conduct thorough investigations and gather relevant information.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify trends and develop solutions to employee relations issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively mediate disputes and build rapport with employees at all levels.
  • Confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive employee information.
  • Experience with conflict resolution and mediation techniques.
