The Nurse Manager will oversee the practice of the Nurse Triage department which delivers thorough telephonic support to patients from 14 UC Davis Primary Care clinics, including three based in hospitals. Registered Nurses within the program care for patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly.Responsible for management of human and other resources, clinical and professional development, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards. Participates in strategic and clinical program planning and clinical quality improvement initiatives. Serves as a clinical expert and staff resource. The Nurse Triage Manager provides management of the nursing practice and patient care delivery for a diversified or specialized patient population. Fosters interdisciplinary collaborative relationships within the clinic, the institution, and the community. Demonstrates accountability for own practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- A valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
- Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing. Bachelors Degree in Nursing, or Masters Degree in Nursing earned through a direct entry MSN program.
- Master's degree required in nursing or other related field. If currently in Master's degree program, must complete and graduate within three years.
- Five (5) years of nursing experience.
- Two (2) years of nursing management experience.
- Recent Ambulatory Clinic or Ambulatory Operations experience.
- Experience in personnel management to include developing position descriptions, recruiting, interviewing, selecting, training. motivating, coaching, evaluating and disciplining.
- Experience in administrative coordination and fiscal policy.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned area.
- Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice.
- Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area.
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
- Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
- Possess strong leadership and critical thinking skills to include: ability to rapidly resolve complex clinic/resource issues.
- Ability to manage and promote excellence in a clinical academic environment of multiple providers, personnel and patients.
- Ability to set priorities and organize work.
- Knowledge of pathophysiology and nursing processes to make independent clinical decisions and provide clinical leadership within the department.
- Functional knowledge of clinical quality improvement initiatives and research process.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission, Title XXII, federal and state regulations.
- Knowledge of applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements covering employees supervised.
- Ability to provide on-going staff development/mentoring and serve as a role model for all personnel.
- Possess excellent communication and public relations skills.
- Ability to inspire creativity and motivation in others.
- Practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
- Job requires occasional provision of direct patient care, including moving and positioning patients (with assistance as needed to ensure employee and patient safety) and assisting with multiple exams and procedures that cumulatively may last several hours at a time. Job also typically requires frequent movement throughout the clinic.
Preferred Qualifications
- AMB-BC, NE-BC, or NEA-BC certification
- Experience in Telephonic Nurse Triage.
- Experience developing reports, monitoring data, and implementing strategies to improve quality of services.
- Magnet/shared governance experience preferred.
- Managing in a union environment preferred.
- Epic EMR experience.
Department Overview
Nurse Triage provides comprehensive telephonic advice to patients from 14 Primary Care UC Davis clinics, 3 of which are hospital-based. Within Nurse Triage, Registered Nurses provide services to patients ranging from newborn to geriatric. We handle both advice calls
and emergent calls and determine the disposition for each patients' care, whether it be home care, office visit, or ED. The call volume daily ranges from 400-500 calls. Nurse Triage also houses the MyChart Message Team where RNs perform initial intake of patient
MyChart messages for 11 primary care clinics. The nurses handle an average of 1,100 messages per day. Additionally, the department support the UC Davis MD Consult line, UC Davis Express Care, and Urgent Care at Home referrals.
