Serves as a technical expert in diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures, including advanced imaging modalities and radiopharmaceutical therapies. Demonstrates mastery in performing complex Nuclear Medicine (NM) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) / PET-CT procedures while mentoring other technologists. Takes a leading role in radiation safety compliance and protocol development. Develops basic competencies and abilities in advanced therapeutic procedures such as MIBG I-131 Therapy, Lutathera, and Y-90 treatments. Provides expert patient care while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards. Acts as a clinical resource for the department while supporting quality improvement projects and educational initiatives such as training and or mentoring new staff members inclusive of students and other health care professionals. Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures independently, while participating, and performing specialized treatments such as MIBG I-131, Lutathera, and Y-90, while ensuring optimal image quality and patient safety. Demonstrates expertise in adapting protocols for challenging cases and patient conditions. Provides clinical mentorship and technical guidance to new hires, and associate technologists, students, and other healthcare professionals in nuclear medicine procedures and radiation safety practices. Serves as a technical resource for complex cases and procedure optimization. Develops and implements imaging protocols in collaboration with medical physicists and radiologists to enhance diagnostic quality and reduce radiation exposure. Participates in the evaluation and validation of new protocols and procedures. Manages the safe handling, preparation, and administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with federal and state regulations. Maintains detailed documentation of all therapeutic procedures and patient-specific radiation safety plans. Coordinates complex patient care workflows, including the management of multiple procedures or therapies, while ensuring efficient department operations. Handles high-priority and emergency cases with advanced problem-solving skills. Performs quality control procedures for imaging equipment and maintains compliance with departmental and regulatory standards. Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions promptly, coordinating with service engineers for resolution. Provides advanced patient education regarding complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including radiation safety instructions and post-procedure care requirements. Ensures proper documentation of all patient education in the medical record. Demonstrates expertise in operating advanced imaging systems including PET/CT and specialized nuclear medicine equipment. Maintains proficiency in all required information systems including RIS, EMR, and PACS. Participates in department accreditation activities and quality improvement initiatives by collecting data, analyzing trends, and recommending process improvements. Contributes to the development and revision of department policies and procedures. Maintains advanced competency in emergency response procedures and demonstrates proficiency in managing adverse reactions to radiopharmaceuticals and contrast media. Serves as a first responder in emergency situations until additional help arrives. Performs and documents required quality assurance testing for therapeutic and diagnostic procedures according to regulatory requirements. Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission, American College of Radiology (ACR), and state regulations. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of radiation biology and physics principles through the application of ALARA principles in daily practice. Optimizes radiation protection measures for patients, staff, and the public during all procedures. Other Information SCOPE AND LEVEL Guidelines: Fully qualified, full performance or journey level.
