JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Lambert Undergraduate Advising Center at Penn State Harrisburg seeks a student-centered professional to serve as an Academic Adviser. We seek a motivated individual who can effectively engage students in developing skills that allow them to explore and build meaningful academic goals. This position will also be focused on providing advising support to the student-athletes who are a part of the college's fifteen NCAA Division III sports. This is a 12-month, 30-hour-per-week FTE position with full benefits.

We are interested in individuals who a) understand the role of academic advising in promoting student success, b) recognize the importance of developing resources and outreach strategies that meet students where they are) can display both empathy and accountability in working with students, d) are committed to being engaged and collaborative in our unit, the college, and the university, and e) understand the unique needs of student-athletes.

The Advising Center strives to be an inclusive unit that embraces the diverse student, staff, and faculty backgrounds and experiences at our campus. The successful candidate for this position will be able to articulate the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the work of academic advising, higher education, and society.

Duties

  • Provide academic advising to assigned students by assessing needs and making referrals, guiding students in course selection and scheduling, monitoring academic progress, supporting the resolution of academic difficulties, and maintaining the confidentiality of student records.

  • Provide advising support to student-athletes including monitoring student-athlete academic records with eligibility in mind, communicating with student-athletes and coaches around critical registration and progress reporting deadlines, and being available at times more convenient for student-athletes.

  • Serve as the advising liaison to the Athletics Department.

  • Interpret University policies, procedures, and curricular requirements.

  • Maintain a superior level of customer service to all students, families, staff, and faculty.

  • Participate in new student recruitment activities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree

  • 3+ years of relevant experience

  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage concurrent projects.

  • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

  • Experience with Office365, PeopleSoft, and relationship management tools.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
