About the Role:

Responsible for defining and executing equipment design & procurement, internal material flow improvements, working with cross functional teams to improve material flow, containerization, and line display for existing and new programs. The Industrial Material Handling Engineer will also work with facilities and equipment engineering, including identification of all material display and delivery equipment. This engineer will also develop facility marking & layout designs as required for supply chain processes (storage/aisle stripping), budget tracking and reporting, bid specification preparation, PIV requirements. This position will also identify, support, and cooperate in Lean Manufacturing events in support of the manufacturing facilities. All engineers at Wabash are expected to support the Wabash Manufacturing System (WMS) standards and methodologies.

Your Responsibilities:



  • Acts as the liaison for material handling initiatives being considered from other functional departments, i.e., production, facilities, supply chain & safety
  • Identify, support & implement material handling and continuous improvement programs in support of the entire manufacturing process

    • Examples would include cycle time reduction, plant layouts, material display design, scrap and cost reduction planning related to material handling functions


  • Participates and/or coordinates lean & continuous improvement cross functional workshops to implement projects in a variety of areas

    • Examples: Dock & storage (warehouse) analysis, route planning, minimum material handling, WPO, 5S/5T, PFEP, FLOW, etc.


  • Individual and cross functional project support required
  • Maintains project budget(s) and timeline(s)
  • Performs economic analysis techniques for assigned work
  • Prepares detailed bid and/or design specifications for new material handling equipment
  • Attends appropriate system buy-offs; travel minimal but expected during run-offs
  • Ability to perform in a constantly changing high pressure environment
  • Other duties as assigned


Let's Talk About Your Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree; Major Desired: Engineering or Technology required (Industrial (preferred), Mechanical or related field)
  • 1-3 years' experience within field described above
  • This person should have supply chain, lean manufacturing, industrial and mechanical engineering experience a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD required
  • Understanding of MS Project, Visio and MRP/ERP systems required
  • Able to construct Value Stream Maps (current and future states), identify improvements and lead cross functional teams
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification preferred
  • SAP, AS400 experience preferred
