AUDIT DIRECTOR 1 - CONTRACT MONITORING Office of Inspector General Department of Correction Nashville, TN Salary Range: $8,534 - $13,618 Closing Date: 01/27/2025

Who we are and what we do:

The mission of the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) is to operate safe and secure facilities and provides effective community supervision in support of successful reentry. The Department manages and operates or oversees 14 state prisons housing approximately 21,000 offenders. In addition, the Department supervises approximately 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community correction and operates 8 Day Reporting/Community Resource Centers (DRC/CRC) across the state. The Department is fully accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).

How you make a difference in this role:

The Audit Director 1 position oversees the coordination of the daily administrative services for contract monitoring audits currently for inmate health services, inmate behavioral health services, inmate food services, and privately managed facilities. Other duties and responsibilities include oversight of the development and distribution of contract monitoring instruments, reviewing policies, preparing reports and presentations, and overseeing audit processes related to contracts and TDOC policies. This position reports directly to the Deputy Inspector General.

Job Overview:

The Audit Director 1 position oversees the coordination of the daily administrative services for contract monitoring audits currently for inmate health services, inmate behavioral health services, inmate food services, and privately managed facilities. Other duties and responsibilities include oversight of the development and distribution of contract monitoring instruments, reviewing policies, preparing reports and presentations, and overseeing audit processes related to contracts and TDOC policies. This position reports directly to the Deputy Inspector General.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage contract monitoring teams, to include developing job performance plans, completing Interims I and II and annual reviews, reviewing audit reports, ensuring attendance or completion of all required initial and annual training, and providing other supervisory support as required.
  • Oversee and manage the contract monitoring process for all TDOC contracts;
  • Oversee and manage follow-up audits on findings and plans of corrective actions resulting from audits;
  • Prepare and review compliance reports;
  • Prepare reports and presentations for executive staff;
  • Maintain a tracking system for findings notated during audits;
  • Maintain a calendar for the division detailing audit dates and locations;
  • Oversee and manage the development and distribution of contract monitoring instruments;
  • Review policies, as assigned; and
  • Attend conferences, upon request.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor's degree and at least ten (10) years of correctional or auditing experience.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency and capability to make rational decisions, solve problems, organize their time well, and work efficiently.
  • Must be a self-starter, motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with strong leadership skills, resolve, self-confidence, originality, and drive.
  • Must have good communication and writing skills and the ability to appropriately correspond with various agencies and clients.
  • Must have the ability to interact on a professional level with a variety of individuals, agencies, and clients.
  • Must be available for meetings, briefings, and consultations as requested.
  • Must be available to travel in and out of state as requested.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Must be willing to travel at least 50% of the time
