Overview

This position will be the primary inside claims supervisor for liability losses handled within the specified claims region. This individual may oversee standard and/or E&S liability claims, including general liability and auto bodily injury. The position will monitor and supervise a team of claims representatives, providing them with direct oversight, guidance, authority and feedback according to Selective's claims policies, guidelines, practices and procedures. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the Charlotte office.


Responsibilities

  • Supervises, coordinates and monitors activities of a claims unit in order to obtain and ensure an accurate, quality product while maintaining high production standards and performance standards.
  • Schedules, prioritizes, and distributes workflow of unit to ensure work is done in a timely fashion and all deadlines are met.
  • Provides effective orientation and onboarding for new staff members. Accurately identifies employee strengths and development needs; provides training and ongoing coaching. Delivers high-impact feedback. Addresses employee performance problems.
  • Manages the handling and resolution of all claims within area of responsibility and authority. Manages reserve process to ensure reserve adequacy. Approves claim reserves and payments within authority and as necessary.
  • Maintains a direct diary on serious claims and/or litigated claims and an override diary on other selected claims. Reviews consumer/agency complaints.
  • Recognizes fraudulent claims activity that would be subject to SIU referral in accordance with company guidelines and subsequent referral to law enforcement or regulatory agencies.
  • Reviews and implements claims audit recommendations on a continuous basis.
  • Audits procedures and controls to ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements. Provides statistical data to management to ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and state regulations.
  • Must be able to drive an automobile to travel within territory. Car travel represents approximately 0-10% of employee's time and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Excellent claims technical and coverage knowledge.
  • Ability to supervise and train claims representatives in all aspects of claims processes.
  • Proven ability to operate personal computer with proficient use of claims and business software.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal), influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to organize and deal with a variety of situations, discern problems and recommend/implement solutions.
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills, including the ability to recognize, analyze and improve claims performance in situations such as loss control, customer satisfaction, employee development and engagement.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to build and sustain positive experience and relationships with staff, colleagues, and external contacts.
  • Must have valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and be able to drive an automobile.

Education and Experience

  • College degree preferred.
  • Experience required; 3 -5 years claims handling experience;
  • 3+ years supervisory experience of technical level staff.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.


Pay Range

USD $95,000.00 - USD $136,000.00 /Yr.
