Position Overview
The University of Kansas McNair Scholars Program is seeking an Academic Services Coordinator. The successful candidate is an individual committed, in theory and practice, to the principles of equal educational opportunities and who can fully incorporate this goal into the services provided for low-income, first-generation and a wide variety of college students. The Academic Services Coordinator reports to the Project Director of the McNair Scholars Program. The McNair Scholars Program is funded through U.S. Department and it is located in Lawrence, Kansas. The Academic Services Coordinator provides academic & research support to undergraduate students through individual meetings, workshops and summer research internship.

Job Description
Research & Scholarly Advising (15%) - Provide individual academic advising for participants on a weekly basis.

Provide instructional & guidance services (25%) - Provide guidance services (educational, financial, career, and personal) to participants. Plan and assist in the development and implementation of academic assistance workshops.

Program Support (15%) - Provide advising to prospective students, coordinate and assist with the recruitment, screening, and selection of eligible program participants. Coordinate graduate program visits, research conference attendance, and other similar activities by program participants. Facilitate and assist with program communication (website, social media, digital newsletter, etc.)

McNair Summer Research Internship (25%) - Help facilitate and supervise McNair Summer Research Internship.

Graduate School Application Support (10%) - Provide advising and assistant to Program participants with the graduate school application process, including the search for financial resources.

Documentation (5%) - Adhere to deadlines and regulations regarding required program documentation, reports, data collection, and forms.

Other (5%) Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director.

Position Requirements
This position is on-site in Lawrence, KS.

Required Qualifications
  1. Master's Degree
  2. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff in postsecondary institutions, as evidenced in application materials.
  3. Experience with current educational resources and information on testing, career planning, graduate school admissions, and financial aid resources, as evidenced in application materials.
  4. Previous experience working independently and complying with program guidelines, as evidenced in application materials.
  5. Previous work experience that required organizational, written and interpersonal skills, as evidenced in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience with counseling or advising.
  2. Experience coordinating and implementing academic workshops, seminars, and group activities.
  3. Experience working with a wide variety of populations.
  4. Previous TRIO experience.
