JOB SUMMARY:

The Circulation Coordinator of Access and Delivery Services at Pius XII Memorial Library at St. Louis University focuses on ensuring high level of service to the patrons at the circulation desk. The Circulation Coordinator provides direction, guidance, support, and supervision to student assistants and two library staff to meet the ever-changing needs and expectations of students, staff, and faculty. The Circulation Coordinator participates and contributes to effective and efficient operation of the Access and Delivery Services Department while advancing the mission and strategic goals of the Libraries and Museums as well as the University.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service, Communication, & Problem Solving

  • Coordinate and perform circulation duties within Access & Delivery Services department.

  • Respond to user questions, assist with basic reference and directional questions, and/or questions about databases, searching, and finding materials.

  • Understand and articulate library policies to answer questions that may arise.

  • Open/or close the library building either independently or in coordination with other library staff and student employees.

  • Ensure the security of the library building and its collections.

  • Collect and monitor statistics needed for operational efficiency.

Supervision of staff and student assistants

  • Oversee 2 staff members and 20-25 student assistants.

  • Assist in scheduling staff.

  • Develop training material for student assistants training.

  • Lead planning for student assistant orientation, training, and recognition events.

  • Manage selection, hiring, and onboard for access and delivery services student assistants.

  • Develop and maintain student assistant schedules.

  • Identify and train student leads.

  • Manage daily operations of the access and delivery services student assistants including monitoring attendance, assigning and overseeing work assignments, providing feedback regarding work performance, and conducting performance reviews.

  • Approve timesheets for staff and student assistants.

  • Perform yearly evaluations.

Leadership, Collaboration, & Professional Development

  • Support the library's mission, vision, and values.

  • Contribute to the advancement of the library's strategic plan.

  • Prepare, review, maintain, and assist with a variety of related reports, records, and documents.

  • Cooperate as a team member with library staff in performing any duties essential to efficient library services.

  • Participate in committees and groups in support of library's strategic plan implementation

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and stays current in regard to library related practices, technology, and equipment.

Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of multiple library-specific computer applications;

  • Effective communication;

  • Ability to interpreter and address user needs;

  • Ability to diffuse difficult or complicated situations;

  • Ability to explain technical information and processes in a comprehensible manner;

  • Ability of multitask and prioritize projects based on importance and deadlines;

  • Ability and willingness to contribute to the library's mission and strategic goals.

  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the broad diversity of the university community

  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices in academic research libraries and in Access and Delivery Services.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the university community.

  • Supervisory experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors degree plus 2 years of current (within 5 years) experience in a library;

  • OR, an equivalent combination of current library experience, training, and/or education in related field;

  • AND, proficiency in multiple library-specific computer applications, e.g. integrated library systems, database application, and content management systems.
