For one year, you can get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands-on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.


  • Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.
  • Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
  • Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction and home repair aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: Evergreen Habitat for Humanity is located in Vancouver, Washington. Vancouver is separated by Portland, Oregon by the Columbia River, leaving us just 15 minutes from downtown Portland. We also have a lively city center of our own with plenty of great local spots for food, drink, and unique activities including a brand new, beautiful riverfront walk. Vancouver is situated in the heart of the beautiful Pacific Northwest and is accessible to incredible nature and a wide variety of outdoor activities. We are an hour and a half drive from the Pacific Ocean, and an hour and a half drive from Mt. Hood, a popular hiking and skiing destination. Vancouver also boasts a thriving arts scene, and Portland, a great sports culture. No matter your interests, you'll find it here.
  • Unique projects: This AmeriCorps position will be working on a unique cottage-style home cluster project. This project is the first of its kind for Evergreen Habitat as well as one of the very first of its kind for our community, as Cottage Cluster zoning was only recently approved. Homes will have a small footprint of just under 1000 square feet and be two stories. They will be in 3 clusters with shared green space and walking paths.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
