Description

MISO is hiring a Market and Grid Research Principal Advisor. You will work with an intelligent and committed R&D team to drive market and grid transformations and innovations in the rapidly evolving energy fleet. You will lead cross-functional teams, leveraging subject matter expertise across the organization to drive impactful initiatives. Using advanced engineering and operations research techniques, this role focuses on conducting impact assessments, enabling data-driven decision-making, and developing prototypes for energy markets, operations, and technology systems.

As MISO's Market and Grid Research Principal Advisor, you will:



  • Stay current on emerging trends and technologies, assess impacts on business models and strategies, and inform how they might integrate into MISO's markets and operations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand current and future needs and develop strategies, priorities and metrics to meet future challenges.
  • Delivering on high-priority initiatives.
  • Create white papers and formal publications to share research findings and highlight MISO's strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate and guide internal and external teams in conducting studies, benchmarking efforts, and summarizing key trends, risks, and opportunities while leading projects and initiatives.
  • Advise team members as well as others across the organization in their technical development efforts and solving complex problems outside of area of expertise


To be successful as our Market and Grid Research Principal Advisor, you should have:



  • At least ten (10) years of relevant work experience, with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Economics, or a related technical field
  • At least ten (10) years of working experience in an applied research setting (e.g. academia, lab, industry research group) ideally focused on electricity-focused research
  • Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
  • In-depth experience with at least two of the following:

    • Wholesale electricity market design, implementation, monitoring, settlements, and/or operation
    • Market clearing engines and electricity pricing
    • Power flow analysis, security constrained unit commitment and economic dispatch
    • Development or application of computational methods in power systems analysis and operation
    • Development or application of optimization or machine learning or similar methods
    • Electric utility resource procurement, electric transmission and/or generation development
    • Advanced training, certification and experience within any of the following: energy markets, operations research or economic theories and practices preferred.





Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
