About the Job:

The Vice President, Operations plans and directs activities policies, objectives and initiatives for the Business Unit (BU) within the Division according to the mission of the Division and ensures the Business Unit meets budgeted financial goals and objectives.

In This Role, You Will:




  • Provide leadership, direction, and vision to operations personnel to achieve BU annual revenue goals, service, and growth objectives

    • Lead and motivate direct reports to achieve profit (EBITDA) targets and continuously maximize profitability
    • Review and adjust organizational structure to best meet the needs of customers and stakeholders
    • Utilize continuous improvement methodologies, developing a culture focused on employee safety, quality, and cost effectiveness
    • Support talent acquisition, employee development, and retention of division staff including the identification and training of back-up for key positions and establishment of a shadow organization throughout the division.


  • Lead and execute the strategic direction for the BU that is in alignment with the organization's long-term goals and objectives

    • Direct operational initiatives to effectively grow the business, ensure financial strength, and drive efficiencies
    • Identify top line growth initiatives within the BU
    • Carry out approved business and operational plans, programs, and strategy for the BU including full administrative, financial and sales responsibility to support corporate vision and strategy


  • Create and inspire team environment with culture of open communication

    • Set clear team goals and hold team members accountable for performance
    • Delegate tasks and set deadlines
    • Monitor team performance and report on metrics
    • Partner with Human Resources to discover training needs and ensure coaching is provided
    • Listen to team members' feedback and resolve issues or conflicts


  • Liaise and collaborate with all members of Odyssey leadership
  • Work with other VPs in the division to drive synergies
  • Create strategic plans to meet goals set forth by Division President, Corporate Office and regulation

    • Lead compliance with the Company's policies, procedures, and Corporate Compliance Programs, as well as with government regulations
    • Provide regular updates to the Division President and Corporate Office regarding BU activities including strategies, financial performance, etc.

Required:




  • 5-10 years of progressive operations management experience in the logistics industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related area required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to direct large complex initiatives to ensure completion required.
  • Proven ability to analyze and conclude; ability to apply Continuous Improvement methodologies and to standardize processes required.
  • Well-established people leadership skills that span the scope of levels in the organization required.
  • Ability to formulate organizational vision and strategies, along with the ability to lead a team in the planning and achievement of the vision required.
  • Strong knowledge of industry best practices related to logistics required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the company's vision, direction, strategic plan, decisions, and opportunities to stakeholders, both internally and externally required.
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles required.
  • Expertise in interpreting contracts and customer negotiations, combined with a rigorous analytical approach.
  • Clear ability to lead an organization, to inspire and motivate team members, to set high standards of achievement and willingness to be deeply engaged, setting and achieving aggressive goals.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, OSHA, EPA, and OSHA regulations is required.

This is a remote role based out of Chicago, IL.
