Brief Summary of Job Duties: Under general supervision and working independently, provides connectivity, trouble-shooting, and configuration activities for services provided by campus' central telephone system (PBX), peripheral voice/data/CATV communications equipment using the various intra-building and inter-building data infrastructure for which the department is responsible. Assumes shared responsibility for the cable plant by determining and assigning the appropriate cable pairs, working in concert with other telecommunications technicians for required changes in cable pair assignments. Collaborating with cable maintenance and installation crews on locating cable, cable tray, conduits, access panels, and manholes for the construction, adding and/or maintaining the cable plant. Reviewing and verifying all completed work orders for accuracy of cable assignments, and recording all changes to both outside and inside cable plant. Configures, installs, tests, repairs and maintains complex voice and data communications equipment, circuits and services in a blended protocol communications network environment. The position requires climbing ladders, lifting materials, working in vaults, manholes, ceilings, Confined Space, etc. Regular use of small hand tools and test equipment. Must be able to work in noisy switch rooms, hot, moist, and dirty vaults and manholes, and environments that are cold, windy, and undesirable for long-term exposure. Participates in campus cross-functional and cross divisional initiatives and projects as scheduled, ensuring a high degree of technical quality and accuracy to support a varied technical/service community.
