Application Support Engineer

This position is an on-campus, full-time, 12-month appointment covered by the Professional Support Staff (PSS) Union with an annual salary of $57,166.29.

Priority consideration given to applications submitted before January 6th, 2025.

Temporary and permanent positions available, with a projected start date in late January.

The Application
Support Engineer is responsible for administering the Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) system, related Enterprise Applications, Cloud-based
Applications including O365, and perform DBA functions. Administration includes
architecting, installing, configuring, securing, documenting, and maintaining
the core ERP application, supporting virtual servers and software systems in a
dynamic team-oriented environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • ERP System administration of Ellucian Colleague, SAP Business Objects, Apache TomCat, and associated development/test systems.
  • Database Administration, including Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and SQL Anywhere.
  • Active Directory Administration, and OKTA Administration, including on-prem, Azure, and Entra ID.
  • Administration and integration of Cloud-based software and services.
  • Install and maintain Windows virtual server operating systems.
  • Develop scripts for automation through low code solutions, and PowerShell.
  • Support production critical activities during non-business hours as needed.
  • Install security patches and update (Windows, Apache, .NET).
  • Document systems, programs, and backup procedures.
  • Create and maintain user accounts and security.
  • Determine suitable technology for user needs.
  • Perform management allocation of disk storage and memory.
  • Troubleshoot system issues.
  • Test new technology in a safe environment.
  • Continue education in the field.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree in one of the computer sciences or three years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
  • Progressive responsibilities and work experience in Information Technology or related profession.
  • Knowledge of operating systems, including Windows and Linux.
  • Previous experience with operating system management.
  • Knowledge of Database Management.
  • Verbal and mathematical abilities sufficient to document programs and backup procedures, manage disk storage allocation, and address user needs.
  • Strong analytical abilities, attentiveness to detail, and the ability to learn the Parkland
  • Information System and new programs and systems as technology changes.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment.This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
