Geosyntec is seeking a mid-career Environmental Scientist to join our team in Houston or Austin, Texas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Is this the right position to help you achieve your professional goals? Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

    Providing technical and project management for site investigation and remediation projects, such as those utilizing the Texas Risk Reduction Program (TRRP).
  • Managing and overseeing preparation of technical reports such as Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs); Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs); Spill, Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans; and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs).
  • Prepare and manage environmental investigation work plans and provide technical support on a variety of environmental projects for oil & gas, petrochemical, waste, and agrichemical clients.
  • Manage and perform surface and subsurface investigations including drilling, geologic/geotechnical logging, and environmental media sampling (groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment, air/vapor, and waste).
  • Review and research regulatory topics, along with determining regulatory applicability to processes and problems.
  • Participate in business development activities and begin to establish a consulting practice. Mentor junior staff and interact with senior Geosyntec staff to meet task, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Support client opportunities and proposal preparation, and gain increasing responsibility with project tasks through training provided by Geosyntec and by working with senior staff and management.

Here are some other things you should know about this position:

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 30%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 20%


Education and Licensure

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or equivalent from an accredited university. (required)
  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science or equivalent from an accredited university. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., G.I.T, P.G.) or ability to gain registration. (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • At least five years of directly related experience in environmental engineering or science, preferably in a consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients. (required)
  • Proven leadership skills. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Project experience involving environmental regulatory compliance, historical research, and environmental assessment. (preferred)
  • Experience with soil and groundwater remediation. (required)
  • Detailed Federal and Texas regulatory knowledge, especially TRRP, VCP, and RCRA. (preferred)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Prior experience in environmental consulting. (preferred)
  • Strong technical writing, project management, and communication skills (required)
  • Regular fieldwork and overnight travel. (required).
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
