Department: MED-Biochem&Molecular Genetics
Salary/Grade: RES/

Job Summary:

A postdoctoral fellow position is available to investigate the interface between epigenetics and metabolism within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at Northwestern University. The fellow will explore how transcriptional regulators influence nucleotide metabolism and gene expression, with the goal of uncovering new molecular mechanisms linking epigenetic regulation and metabolic pathways. This project will employ advanced genomic, proteomic, and metabolomic tools to map these regulatory networks.

Please note: Occasional weekends and evenings as requested and with some possible travel, as required.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • The postdoc fellow should lead experimental studies to uncover how key transcriptional regulators modulate nucleotide/cellular metabolism. The postdoc fellow will use cutting-edge techniques, including CRISPR screens, RNA-seq, and metabolomic profiling, to investigate transcriptional and metabolic
  • alterations in response to epigenetic disruptions.
  • The postdoc fellow will analyze complex multi-omics datasets to identify critical regulatory nodes between nucleotide synthesis and transcriptional regulation. Findings will be essential in shaping future research directions and experimental designs.
  • The postdoc fellow will work closely with Drs. Issam Ben-Sahra and Shannon Lauberth, as well as other interdisciplinary collaborators, to integrate expertise from different fields and lead team-based projects.
  • The postdoc fellow will contribute to the writing of research papers and grant proposals based on findings, enhancing the scientific output and securing funding for continued research in epigenetics and metabolism.
  • The postdoc fellow will translate fundamental research findings into potential clinical applications by identifying metabolic vulnerabilities in cancer cells, contributing to the department's goal of developing innovative cancer treatments.
